Obedience

Obedience training is one of the most important aspects of raising a dog. In fact, a well trained dog is by far a happier dog! A trained dog requires fewer restrictions. The more reliable the dog, the more freedom he or she is given. Moreover, because a well-mannered, obedience-trained dog is both appreciated and welcome, he or she receives more attention and interaction from family members, visitors, and passers-by, than does the ill-mannered dog. Dogs, by nature, are pack animals with a well-defined social order. As you and your family become your dog's pack, your new dog will be testing their place within this pack. Obedience builds communication, understanding, and mutual respect, and demonstrates to your dog that you're the leader of the pack or the "Alpha". If your dog doesn't respect you as his leader, he will not obey the commands you give, particularly if he's a bit rowdy or dominant by nature. It will be important to set rules and boundaries for your dog and make sure you follow through with enforcing these.

The obedience program offered at our kennel is a 4 week long, one on one (dog/trainer) program. Every dog is different and therefore requires individualized training. We cover the basic commands every dog needs to know to be a well mannered member of your family: heel, sit, wait, bed/stay, come, no jumping, etc. Your dog will be taught to walk on a loose lead using you as their guide for pace and direction. The sit command will no longer be a quick sit down and stand back up; it now means to stay seated until released and sit for attention. Wait will be used at doors, gates, and road crossings. Come is taught on a 100 ft lead out on 80 acres of training grounds, and then reinforced off lead with the use of an e-collar. Once the dog is proficient on their own, we will add in distractions such as other dogs, kids, etc. Going to a bed and staying is the final command taught and is done in stages of insight stay and out of sight stay. At the end of the program we invite the owners and their family out for a 2-3 hour training session, where you will see your dog working for the trainer and then have the opportunity to work your dog with the trainer's guidance.

We encourage owners to come visit us and our facilities; especially if you are unfamiliar with us, our facilities, or the e-collars.

Program cost:  Effective 1/1/2019 $800.00 Cash or Check only no cards (price includes 4 week training and                             boarding, dogtra e-collar, and 2-3 hour owner training session )
Requirements:  Owner provides food for the dog's 4 week stay, proof of vaccinations (Distemper, Parvo                                    virus, Rabies, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza H3N2)
Optional:  Owners are welcome to bring a bed or blanket, but due to our 80 acre outdoor training                                   grounds the dogs can get their bedding wet and dirty upon returning from their lessons.  So we                     recommend not to bring anything you want returned at the end of the 4 weeks.  Toys and                               bones are welcome as long as they don't squeak or sized to swallow.  We don't accept anything                     Rawhide.
